This Colt Is By O’REILLY-One Of the Best Stallions Ever To Stand in New Zealand, And From The Family of The Cox Plate Winner OCEAN PARK!
When I went to the Karaka Yearling Sales in February, my mission was to find one of those typical NZ bred miler-taying types, tall with good length about them, good bone and a deep girth, a relaxed attitude that’s becoming of a staying prospect and of course, a good pedigree to back it all up, AND without paying a lot of money too! This colt, by the legendary stallion O’Reilly from a Zabeel mare ticked all the boxes!
He was amongst the biggest yearlings I saw at Karaka, and he’s got terrific conformation. He’s got a great temperament with nothing seeming to faze him, in fact he’s such a gentleman of a horse, that the girls at Waikato Stud who look after him were over the Moon when I told them that he was returning to their farm for agistment before he goes off to the breakers.
If you’re in New Zealand looking to buy a miler who could eventually go on to outstay his pedigree and possibly be a cups horse, then you really can’t go wrong buying an O’Reilly out of a Zabeel mare. O’Reilly is the sire of top class performers such as SILENT ACHIEVER, SHAMROCKER, ALAMOSA, SACRED FALLS, GUYNO and SHAMEXPRESS to name but a few. During an illustrious stud career, he’s had over 1200 runners for 800+ individual winners, at a winners to runners ratio of 68%, and 85 of them have won at Group or Listed level. Incredible stats by industry standards!
There’s plenty of black type in this colt’s pedigree, with his dam (Mother) being a ¾ sister to the dam of the Group 1 Cox Plate winner OCEAN PARK whilst his second dam CRITIC was a Group 1 winner to a mile.
The dam has had three full relations to this colt get to the track. One was placed from just 3 starts before being retired (presumed injured) and another, a current season 3yo filly called ‘Knew It’ has, at the time of writing, had one trial start in NZ where it sat wide all the way and bolted in before going straight to Australia and winning it’s only start at Benalla as an odds on favourite for ex Kiwi trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young. This is the type of horse that if he’s not rushed, but just given plenty of time-as much as he needs, could be a Guineas/Derby horse at three, and then develop into a cups horse as a four, five, six and seven year old gelding and maybe even more.
He’s hardly any money at all to buy into, and although you won’t see him run as a two year old over the shorter journeys, you could be right there with him when he gets up in trip to a mile and more as a three year old and older galloper. I hope you can join us and enjoy your turn in the Winners Circle..
He'll be trained at Ascot in Perth by Trevor Andrews.
