Could This Be Your Oaks Filly?
Bred To Run A Strong Mile And Even More, This Filly Should Keep On Keeping On, Long After The Others Have Given Up...
This filly is by the world class multiple European Stakes winning stallion ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE-the winner of an impressive 10 races including the Group 2 Goodwood Cup, and the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Royal Ascot. He also won first up in Dubai over 1777m and was a top ten finisher in the Melbourne Cup too! As a stallion, from only 6 to race at the time of writing, he’s produced two winners, Navy Blue trained by Darren Weir, and Deep Purple trained by Robbie Laing.
This young horse, a stunning looking brown/black 2 year old filly, is a full sister to Deep Purple who’s won twice recently over 2400m in Victoria.
When glancing through her pedigree, it screams ‘STAYER’ at you! Illustrious Blue won to 3200m, Red Geisha won to 2000m, and as mentioned above, her full sister Deep Purple has already won twice to 2400m-with the promise of more to come. Also there in the family proving that staying is their game is Bobby Benzine who 4 races in Perth to 2400m, whilst in New Zealand, Sakura Cluden won to 2400m, Charles Beaufort won to 2200m, Stingray won to 2500m, and Cluden Creek won 9 races including the Group 1 Wellington Cup over 3200m! Backing the stayers up in this pedigree are horses who have won to a mile including Gold Digger in Hong Kong, The Blonde Bimbo in New Zealand and Beta Ray Bill in Malaysia.
The stock of Illustrious Blue, like any good producer of quality staying horses, need to be taken along slowly and shown patience-which is exactly what we’ve done with this filly. That’s why she wasn’t offered as a yearling, but rather was held back until well into her two year old year when already broken in, and had the benefit of track and barrier education. All the hard work has been done, and now here she is, ready for you to just join in and enjoy her racing career.
After completing her work going up to even time (15 seconds per 200m) up the straight at Ascot through November and December, she’ll be given January off, will resume work for a month in February, have another month off in March, and then trainer Trevor Andrews will take over her preparation in early April and guide her to her trials and possibly a race debut as a late two year old-all the time with the aim of having her run over the longer journeys in her third and subsequent years…
I hope you can join me in racing this very athletic looking filly and I look forward to seeing you right where you want to be - IN THE WINNERS CIRCLE!
