Here’s an attractive looking thoroughbred that’ll get everyone’s attention on raceday. And he looks like he’ll run like the wind too!

From the first crop of the Group 1 Criterium International winner Vert De Grece (IRE), this attractive grey colt was the first yearling that I saw at the Perth Magic Millions inspections, and as Lot 282, I had to wait almost until the end of the sale to buy him.

Just like his sire Verglas, Vert De Grece looks to be a real chance to make it as a stallion. A winner at the highest level in France, he was a superior racehorse to Verglas, and was given a Timeform rating of 116. Western Australian breeders have rarely had the opportunity to access a Group 1 winning two year-old. Not only is Vert De Grece a Group 1 winning two year-old, but he’s from a proven sire line in WA too. Verglas (IRE) was a real genuine success story when he stood for 2 seasons in WA. In just 2 WA crops Verglas sired 8 stakes winners plus another 5 stakes performers with a 60% winners-to-runners strike rate. Vert De Grece is also closely related to arguably WA’s best sire in the last 25 years, Metal Storm. Vert De Grece’s grandsire Kenmare and great grand-dam sire Habitat are Metal Storm’s sire and damsire.

Prominent bloodstock agent John Chalmers had this to say of Vert De Grece:

“He is taller than his sire, has more length and overall strength, and has an excellent temperament. His win in the French Group 1 event was nothing short of amazing as two-year-olds simply do not show the turn of foot and run away from their opposition as this horse did.”

This colt is only the second foal of the Flying Spur mare Spurred In Flight, and hails from the same family as SKIP AWAY, Champion 3yo Colt in USA and the winner of 18 races including an amazing 9 at Group 1 level. They don’t come much better than him! Adding a local flavour, it’s also the family of recent Perth winner Forest War (ex Forest Flight).

Trainer Dan Morton trained this colt’s dam (mother) and although she got injured early and was retired to stud, Dan said that she had a stack of ability and was potentially a stakes grade horse. He’s keen to get this colt into his stable, and being a forward, mature type and an early August foal, he’ll be given every opportunity to try and win some of the lucrative Westspeed Platinum bonuses that are on offer for two and three-year old’s.  As an example, a Westspeed Platinum eligible horse such as this one will win a gross of $74,300 for every prime metro win (usually Saturday city races) during it’s 2yo and 3yo career. That’s more than you get for winning a typical $100,000 Listed race!  So, just one win and this horse has more then paid for himself!

He’s a strong, correct early running type by a stallion that looks to be a good chance to produce precocious horses, and it’s our view that you won’t have to wait long at all to be getting him to the trials and then on to the races.

He’ll be trained at Ascot by one of the best in the business, and he’s eligible for both the Westspeed Platinum Bonus Scheme and the Magic Millions Perth Series races which potentially means more prizemoney to be won!

I hope you can join me in racing this exciting young prospect…
