Foaled: Aug 29, 2017
Trainer: Trevor Andrews
When I went to the Magic Millions Yearling Sale early in January, I went with one request from Ascot trainer Trevor Andrews-to buy an Exosphere for him to train.
Given the success of Lonhro’s champion son Pierro, now well established as a genuinely top class sire, it’s no wonder that there’s considerable anticipation surrounding the offspring of his next superstar son to go to stud in Exosphere.
A brilliant juvenile that trained on to score a dominant win in the Group 1 ATC Golden Rose at three, Exosphere was retired to stud lightly raced with 5 wins from just 10 starts. Of those 5 wins, 2 were as a 2yo, and 3 were in succession, they being the G2 Run To The Roses, the aforementioned G1 Golden Rose, and also the G2 Roman Consul Stakes in what was an outstanding 3 year old season. It’s little wonder that he’s been very popular with breeders, and so has good numbers at all the major sales for 2019. His size and strength is apparent in his yearlings, and if his raw ability is there as well, then buyers will be quick to snap up these youngsters and write another chapter in the success of Lonhro as a sire of sires.
This filly is plain bay in colour (just like WINX!), she’s a strong type, quite solid with a deep girth, correct conformation, good feet, and a nice nature. She looks every inch a runner.
Potential Future Residual Value: The importance of future residual value when purchasing thoroughbred fillies should be taken seriously when considering whether to buy a colt or a filly.
Whilst almost all colts end up being gelded and are therefore suitable only for a further career off the track, fillies and mares, if they’ve shown ability on the track are worth considerably more as potential broodmares.
Importantly then, there’s quite a bit of promise in this filly’s immediate family which is another reason that I decided to buy her. She has an older 2yo relation-a black colt by Pierro that sold last year for $100,000 that’s being trained in New Zealand. The mare, Amaliehaven has a Testa Rossa foal at foot, and she’s now in foal to Shalla, the top rated juvenile in both England and France in 2015 and who stands the Southern Hemisphere breeding season at Arrowfield Stud for $33,000. All of that means that something could very likely jump out of her pedigree page and further boost the value of this filly. If she were to do well on the track, then there’s another pay day waiting when she eventually gets sold as a potential broodmare. It could even be just the same from a financial point of view of winning a big race!
As mentioned, she’ll be trained at Ascot by Trevor Andrews. With a wealth of experience and big race victories behind him, Trevor has proven himself to be one of the most successful trainers in Perth over the last few decades. He’ll be doing his very best to get both her-and you-in the Winners Circle!
This is a 20 share syndicate priced at $4,095 each, which includes the fall of hammer price, transport from QLD to WA, insurance to 1/8/19, breaking in and all agistment and associated costs to June 30th 2019. After that date, from July 1st, the syndicate fees are fixed at $220/month (billed quarterly in advance), an amount which is calculated to cover all normal costs.
