Recent Ascot winner It’s Judgement Day had to be scratched from the Tatt’s Cup this Saturday as he’s still feeling a knee from when he jarred up at his latest start. The Ascot track was a ‘Good 2’ that day, but in the old language that’s a ‘FAST’ track, and it’s simply too hard for some horses to handle.

We were lucky with Judgement Day. We caught him just in time, and the damage is repairable. Reports are that there were four suspensory ligament injuries out of Ascot that day and another that broke down all together. I can’t confirm that, but it came from a good source.

Local trainers are having a bit of a whinge about the unforgiving Ascot surface, but it’ll take one of the high profile Eastern states trainers to give us a blast if one of their horses suffers at the hands of ‘the runway’ during the carnival, before something more positive is done about it…
