You don’t see that many 3000m races in Australia nowdays, but when you do, they’re always a good race to watch. Elms put in a very credible effort at his first attempt over the journey last week at Ballarat, when he finished a very close third beaten less than a length. Jockey Glen Boss felt that he was entitled to have been beaten further as he was overacing for a fair amount of the 3000m trip, so we can say it was a good, honest effort. Now that we know he’s got no issues staying the 3000m, he’ll have a few more races around the 2400m-3000m range.
