The Bivouacs are coming!

Although his oldest progeny are just 2yo’s, at the time of writing (mid March 2025), BIVOUAC has had a great start to his career as a stallion with six individual winners already, two of the being Group Two winners, and two more being metro winners!

In New Zealand, Bivouac kicked off with INTENTION winning the Group Two Wakefield Challenge Stakes. His first Australian winner was Luana Miss, an Ascot winner trained right here in Perth by Trevor Andrews, and recently we saw BEIWACHT win the Group Two Silver Slipper Stakes in February, and Cavalry Girl winning at Flemington too.

Bivouac, a son of the Champion stallion Exceed & Excel, was crowned World Champion Sprinter and Champion Three-Year-Old, amassing $5,600,000 in prize money and retiring a six-time Group winner, three of them at the elite Group One level.  He’s one of the rare stallions to have won a Group 1 as a two, three, and four year old.

“Good body, good mover, good conformation” with a big tick were the comments on my catalogue page after inspecting this colt on farm at Lynward Park before the yearling sales commenced. Whilst acknowledging that he’s a November foal and so therefore not as forward as most others being presented at the sales, it’s not now I’m buying him for, it’s for when he’s three and older. November foals are often looked over by yearling buyers as they’re compared to their older, more forward barn mates, but you have to look through that, you have to allow for it, and three months quickly turns it around. Think of horses like ANAMOE, SO YOU THINK, NATURE STRIP, REGAL POWER, HARD TO THINK, PROBABEEL, VERRY ELEEGANT and FANGIRL just to name a few, and you get the idea that being a late foal is no barrier to success. Ironically, even this colt’s sire BIVOUAC, a Group 1 winner as a 2yo, 3yo and 4yo, was-you guessed it, a November foal!

This colt is out of Plumm, a stakes placed Encosta de Lago mare who at stud has had four to race for three winners, including LEVKARTE whose 9 wins have netted over $900,000, Total Power whose 5 wins have also netted over $900,000, and High Power who has won 5 races and over $200,000. His second dam Madame Plume (by Military Plume) was also stakes placed finishing second in the South Australian Oaks at Group 1 level. Interestingly, this colt is a 20/20 G1 Goldmine match (a pedigree matching system), and that occurs when a pattern has two or more Graded Stakes Winners with CSI values above 20. This indicates that this mating is excellent as there are at least two superior horses with a very similar pattern.

He’ll require a little more time to allow him to mature, but when he catches up, he’ll be a lovely horse to own, and importantly, he’s also eligible for the WESTSPEED BONUS SCHEME.

The progeny of Bivouac continue to sell well at the various 2025 yearling sales, his progeny are in plenty of the big stables on the east coast, and we’re very excited to have one in ours!
