If the thought of joining a top stable as an owner in a well bred young horse that’s pretty much ready to go, then here’s your horse!
En Plein Air is a 3 year old filly by Universal Ruler from Our Pie ‘O’ My, making her a half brother to our multiple winner Star Soprano, and a full sister to the well performed city winning mare, Empress Of India.
And for those that don’t speak French, En Plein Air is a French expression meaning ‘in the open air’ and refers to the act of painting outdoors. So, when you see an artist sitting there with his easel and canvas painting the landscape, they’re painting ‘en plein air’. So now you know!
This filly has been given plenty of time to develop and has matured into an impressive physical type. After two preps with a pre-trainer, she’s certainly shown enough to justify sending her to the top stable of Grant & Alana Williams, and represents an opportunity to buy into a filly that’s almost ready to go.
From a breeding point of view, her sire Universal Ruler has proven to be a long term, prolific producer of winners. Rarely a week goes by without one or more his progeny winning a race either here in Australia, or in South East Asia too where his stock are very popular. Stakes winners such as Rebel King, The Velvet King, Lady Cosmology, Angelic Ruler, Uni Time, Bam’s On Fire, Market Ruler, Military Reign, and recent winners such as Aztec Ruler, Indie Ruler, Ruler Rocket, Rule’emoff, Yonga Lass, Estimator, Penny On The Queen and Rulee are just some of his 161 winners from 267 runners, giving him a 60% winners to runners to ratio which is high by industry standards.
On the female side of the filly’s pedigree, just about everything on the page wins. Every dam on the page is a winner. Her first dam, Our Pie O My has so far had 3 to race for 2 winners, her second dam Smooth Mover has had 7 to race for 7 winners, and her third dam Miss Sprinklet has had 8 to race for 8 winners. That’s 17 individual winners out of 18 to race between them!
At the time of approval, the filly is in full work with Grant & Alana, and it’s expected that she’ll get to her first trial early in 2024. Those buying into this new syndicate will be getting a well put together young horse by a proven winner producing stallion, from a proven winning high strike rate winning family, and of course, one being trained by currently the leading stable in Western Australia. And, as she fits into the ‘under $3,000/share’ bracket, most importantly, the price is right!
