Think of Clairvoyance, think of In The Boat, and then dream that this could be your next good horse!
If it’s a precocious colt that you’re after, one that can compete for the lucrative Westspeed bonuses on offer for 2 & 3 year olds in Western Australia, then this colt by Nostradamus could be the one for you.
Nostradamus was real speed machine on the racetrack, a quality colt who won 4 races between 1100m and 1200m, competing in Group or Listed company against the best of his generation at 18 of his 20 starts!
He was a winner as a two year old, and also ran fourth in a Blue Diamond Prelude, but it was at three that he excelled, winning twice at Stakes level taking out both the Group 3 San Dominico Stakes over 1100m, and the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas over 1200m. He also ran second in the Roman Consul Stakes over 1200m at Group 2 level as a 3 year old, and he raced on to also win at Stakes level as a four year old too by taking out the R N Irvine Stakes over 1100m.
Nostradamus was retired to stud, but had a few fertility issues, which is why there’s not that many of them around. He’s only had 83 to run for 40 individual winners at the time of writing, but included amongst them is the brilliant Perth filly CLAIRVOYANCE, and Lindsay Smith’s very smart performer IN THE BOAT! Clairvoyance won 7 of her 11 starts including her first 4 in a row, two of them by 5 lengths! A noted short course specialist, she showed her versatility when she achieved Stakes winning status by winning The Pinjarra Classic over 1300m at her penultimate start. In The Boat has also won 7 races to date, and in addition to winning the Listed Abell Stakes at Moonee Valley, he also took out the $500,000 Country Discovery in April 2022.
Knowing that Nostradamus was a speed machine who could produce a speed machine, I sent the mare Presentatie to be covered by him, and the result is this athletic, flashy looking colt. Presentatie won at her first two outings in her native New Zealand, and also won twice after coming over to Western Australia. She also ran 6 placings, all of them on city tracks. This colt was presented for sale as Lot 311 at the 2023 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, and after not reaching the reserve price of $80,000, was bought back by myself for $70,000, with the specific intention of offering him for syndication.
He’ll be trained at Ascot by Luke Fernie, a young trainer with a stout pedigree for racing, and certainly one on the rise amongst the Perth training ranks. He’s currently featuring prominently on the this season’s Top Ten Perth Metro Trainers List, and prepares talented horses such as Laced Up Heels, winner of 3 races including The Burgess Queen Stakes and runner up in the Group 3 Champion Fillies Stakes, Man Crush winner of the Listed Crystal Slipper Stakes as a 2yo, and most recently the Magic Millions 3yo Trophy, Wild Belle who’s won 3 races, and Shaddow Fear, a very promising juvenile who’s had 5 starts for 2 wins. As well as being a great bloke to have a horse with, Luke isn’t one to she away from taking one East if he thinks it’s good enough to compete against the best over there either…
