I know a bit about this horse. I know he’s sound, I know he’s been racing without luck, and I know he’s got enough ability to win us half a dozen races or so.
Minimalist is a 3 year old gelding by Celtus from Foxy Tudor. He’s a half brother to one of our previous handy horses Henry The Pharoah who won 6 races for us…
Trained at Bullsbrook by Ivan Haggerty, Minimalist is lightly raced just 11 times. He’s always shown promise finishing within 2-3 lengths of the winner at 8 of those starts. He’s been a shade unlucky on more than one occasion, and he’s often figured in the Stewards Report. At his last 3 starts at Ascot, he’s finished 1.5, 2.5 & 3.5 lengths from the winner behind some pretty good horses, including a couple of top 3 fastest last 600m finishes.
Because the trainer didn’t want to lose the horse from his stable, he worked with me to negotiate a deal to buy him from his previous owner so that he could keep him to train. That deal has now been done and the horse is in work. This morning at Ascot I watched him as he went evens 1000m in company and finished his gallop hard on the bridle looking for more. It was solid work and he’ll be ready to race in just a few weeks time…
