Albany trainer Steve Wolfe got immediate results with his new stable acquisition Apollo when the handsome gelding scored first up for him on his home track on Easter Sunday. Relishing a hot pace and settling nicely just behind the leading trio, Apollo got the split along the rails when the leader rolled away from the fence and he was presented with a saloon passage home. It wasn’t without a fight though as the second placed horse gave him plenty to think about, but in the end Apollo, with jockey Andrew Castle on board noticeably gritting his teeth in the tight finish, got the verdict by a short margin.
This win was just Apollo’s second win from 24 starts, but along with ten other placings, he’s been promising much for a very long time. Perhaps it’s in the hands of the wily old trainer Wolfe that he’ll find his best…
