You simply can’t go to the yearling sales and ‘bag’ a horse by saying it’s too small. That’s the lesson taught once again by our diminutive 3yo filly DESERT WHISPER who reinforced the old saying that ‘good things come in small packages’ when she demolished a nice field at Bunbury on Saturday. Showing her customary speed, she burned to the front and gave nothing else a chance in the straight, igniting the afterburners over the final furlong to win by 2 lengths eased down for jockey Lucy Fiore as her big crowd of owners cheered her on. In fact, those owners started their vocal encouragement after she turned for home and were clearly audible on the TV coverage right through the line!
The win was Desert Whisper’s 5th from her 15 career starts, and with an additonal 5 placings, it took her prizemoney to over $328,000-over 10 times her yearling sale purchase price! I’m still looking for those prosepective buyers who said “she wasn’t big enough”!
