Romance Calling became the latest winner for the Golden Slipper winning stallion Farnan, when she took out the 1300m maiden at Northam on Thursday at just her third race start.

Jockey Jade McNaught used her good barrier to advantage, and she gave the filly a perfect ride just behind the red hot $1.24 favourite Nine Ball, issuing the challenge a long way out and holding on to win from the fast finishing Toscano. The weight advantage of 53.5kg versus 58kg made a lot of difference in the finish, and trainer Luke Fernie has to be commended for the placement of this 2yo filly against older rivals (thereby getting a significant pull in the weights) at the end of the season.

The future looks bright for Romance Calling as she heads into her three year old season…
